If life is a river, I don’t want to ride it on a jet ski. That’d be too noisy, and too fast. And I don’t want a big ship that needs little boats hanging from it in case something goes wrong. And I don’t want a sunless submarine to lurk around in. And I don’t want a barge to haul tons of crap around with. If life is a river, just give me a raft, and that’ll do fine. On a raft, I’ll move at whatever speed the river wants me to, and whichever way I look, I’ll see beyond my vessel.

Just you and Jim, the King, and the Duke?
Sounds like a nice way to get around.

Damn. Somebody got to the Huck Finn reference before I did. Mark Twain (speaking through the inimitable voice of Huck Finn) said, “We said there warn’t no home like a raft, after all. Other places do seem so cramped up and smothery, but a raft don’t. You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a raft.”
And while we’re quoting Master Finn…
“Music is a good thing; and after all that soul-butter and hogwash I never see it freshen up things so, and sound so honest and bully.”
Thanks to this literary quotes website for the Huck Finn quotes.
Regards, Lee
